Thanks for all your comments. The Alpha Course I'm attending is run by the local Methodist Church. I'm having loads of fun on the course and have learnt a few things too. I get to have my say and no one says "But the WBTS doesn't teach that!". I'm very wary of believing just because someone else says I should. I'm checking out all my options.

Thanks for posting the link, I have just finished listening to it. I wish my JW family would listen to this message. I don't know of any churches in South Africa that deal with cults head on like this. Do you know if the Calvary Chapel is in operation in South Africa?

I think there on to me...
by thebiggestlie inmaybe i'm just a bit paranoid but i think my parents may be on to me.
i hope i didn't blow my cover.... i was out with some jw kids and realised that i left all my "apostate" research and my notebook out on my desk in my room.
when i got home my mother was crying in her room.

Try not to think about the "possible" outcome too much. You'll just drive yourself crazy. Often the reality of the matter is not as bad as what we have imagined will happen. Try to keep calm and answer the questions as honestly as possible. When they do speak to you try keep emotions under wraps or things can get very heated. One option is to write them a letter to explain everything. I find with a letter no one can twist what you've said and no one can interupt you while you're saying it. It will also give them time to re-read it and calm down before talking to you. Hope everything goes well.

I can't believe I lived like that for so long..........wondering how long before the sh*t hits the fan. I was so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Haven't been to meetings for almost nine years now and still have not seen an elder. Wonder if they think I'm still there.......lol

How far would they go?
by barbar ina while ago my mother said that if the society asked the jws to do something that was wrong they wouldn't do it.
it is already easy for them to go against their own consciences, many don't feel it is right to shun others but they do it because they are told to.
most would feel dreadful with letting their children die but would do it if blood was needed because the society tells them to.

I think some would do ANYTHING that GB asked of them. I came across old publications that told JW's to lie and called it spiritual warfare. Telling the r&f that to lie for Jah's Kingdom was ok cause it would protect many and harm no one???!!!!!

They make mistakes just like 1st century christians did.
by GBSJG inwhen i'm discussing problems i have with the wts with my family they often say well they make mistakes just like the early christians did, they are not perfect.. i try to argue that if you think that way you can go to any christian church and say the same.
but usually they say that compared to other religions the wts makes less mistakes so you should go there.. i know that such reasoning doesn't make sense to me but what is a good response to this?.

Yes, all churches make mistakes but God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. The light doesn't get brighter and then go dim again. JW history is so full of flip flopping of doctines. You cannot make a law out of speculations. Should you have gone to elders 10 years ago and told them that the WBTS is wrong about "this generation" and that you felt it did not mean the generation of 1914 you would have been disfellowshipped for apostacy. Yet when they change the doctrine it's ok. It's so sad that so many people believe the JW and never question any of the teachings. Keep talking to your family, maybe something you say will plant the first seed of doubt.
